Ultrastructure of Renal Glomerular Hematoxylin Bodies
Ultrastructural Pathology, 1984Hematoxylin bodies are considered to be the only pathognomonic feature of systemic lupus erythematosus. In this paper, the ultrastructure of hematoxylin bodies is described in a patient with active lupus glomerulonephritis. For identification of hematoxylin bodies, electron micrographs at low magnification were compared with hematoxylin-eosin-stained ...

Gill hematoxylins: first person account
Biotechnic & Histochemistry, 2009This is a personal and practical account of Gill hematoxylin, how it came to be, its composition, illustrations of its appearance in solution with subsequent additions of hematoxylin, oxidizing agent, mordant, a tabular history of relevant contributions, identification of the surface precipitate that forms on concentrated hematoxylin formulations (e.g.,

Improved Hematoxylin Staining for Algal Cytogenetics
Biotechnic & Histochemistry, 1998The aceto-iron hematoxylin method of Wittmann for algal chromosomes was improved by replacing the chloral hydrate and slide heating steps with 5 N HCl hydrolysis. Squashing of the unstained material under the coverslip followed by coverslip removal and air drying allowed rapid and more homogeneous staining.

A Quick-Mixed Aluminum Hematoxylin Stain
Biotechnic & Histochemistry, 1991Two stock solutions are composed as follows: A) aluminum sulfate, sodium iodate and acetic acid in aqueous propylene glycol and B) hematoxylin in pure propylene glycol. When combined in specified proportions the stock solutions yield aluminum-hematein dissolved in nontoxic propylene glycol.

Hematoxylin, an Alternative Substrate of Tyrosinase
Planta MedicaAbstractMushroom tyrosinase from Agaricus bisporus (abTYR) is often used during the development of tyrosinase inhibitors for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. In the search for novel tyrosinase inhibitors, this study identified hematoxylin as an alternative substrate for abTYR.

The Combined Perls-Hematoxylin-Eosin Stain
Stain Technology, 1973To provide a routine check for the presence of ferric iron in sections, Perls' method was combined with hematoxylin and eosin as follows. Deparaffinized sections of formalin-fixed tissues are stained in Perls' reagent (1:1 2%, w/v, of potassium ferrocyanide in distilled water and 2%, v/v, concentrated HCl in distilled water) for 20 min.
