Changes in blood pressure during cemented hemiarthroplasty for hip fracture in elderly patients under spinal anaesthesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
2020-11Blood pressure changes around cement insertion during total hip arthroplasty have been investigated; however, there is little agreement regarding whether a similar phenomenon occurs during hemiarthroplasty in the elderly under spinal anaesthesia ...

Hemiarthroplasty

open access: yes, 2023
Hemiarthrroplasty is a procedure in which the head and neck of femur are only replaced with prosthesis. Currently, almost exclusively used now for displaced intracapsular femur neck fracture in older adults and is the surgery of choice for hip fracture in patients who minimally ambulate or do not function at a very high level.

Resurfacing hemiarthroplasty versus stemmed hemiarthroplasty for glenohumeral osteoarthritis: a meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yesArthroplasty, 2020
Abstract Background Though total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) has been an acknowledged treatment option for glenohumeral osteoarthritis, resurfacing hemiarthroplasty (RHA) and stemmed hemiarthroplasty (SHA) may be preferred in some circumstances by surgeons, especially for treating young or active patients.

The effect of high dose antibiotic impregnated cement on rate of surgical site infection after hip hemiarthroplasty for fractured neck of femur : a protocol for a double-blind quasi randomised controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Mortality following hip hemiarthroplasty is in the range of 10-40% in the first year, with much attributed to post-operative complications.

Cemented versus non-cemented hemiarthroplasty of the hip as a treatment for a displaced femoral neck fracture: design of a randomised controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2009
Background A discussion is ongoing whether displaced femoral neck fractures in elderly patients should be treated with a non-cemented or a cemented hemiarthroplasty. A recent Cochrane analysis stresses the importance of further research into the relative

Internal fixation versus hemiarthroplasty for displaced femoral neck fractures in the elderly [PDF]

open access: yesThe Egyptian Orthopaedic Journal, 2012
IntroductionFemoral neck fractures are among the most common orthopaedic injuries in patients older than 60 years. To date, there is no clear consensus about which patients are best treated by internal fixation and which by some form of arthroplasty ...

Thompson hemiarthroplasty versus modular unipolar implants for patients requiring hemiarthroplasty of the hip:A systematic review of the evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to assess all evidence comparing the Thompson monoblock hemiarthroplasty with modular unipolar implants for patients requiring hemiarthroplasty of the hip with respect to mortality and complications. METHODS: A

No consensus on implant choice for oligometastatic disease of the femoral head and neck

open access: yesJournal of Bone Oncology, 2018
Objectives: Metastatic disease involving the femoral head and neck is often treated with a hemiarthroplasty or total hip arthroplasty (THA) to prevent pathologic fracture but there are no outcome studies demonstrating superiority of one option over the ...

Rapid Acetabular Chondrolysis following Hemiarthroplasty of the Hip: A Poor Prognostic Sign

open access: yesCase Reports in Orthopedics, 2019
Both hemiarthroplasty and total hip arthroplasty have been well described as effective methods of management for displaced femoral neck fractures in the elderly. Acetabular erosion is a common long-term complication of hemiarthroplasty. We present a case
