Predicting muscle patterns for hemimandibulectomy models
Deficits in movement and bite force are common in patients following segmental resection of the mandible consequent to oral cancer or injury. We have previously developed a dynamic model to analyse the biomechanics of an ungrafted segmental jaw resection with unilateral muscle and joint loss and post-surgical scarring.

Masticatory function in hemimandibulectomy patients
SummarySurgical resection of a segment or loss of continuity of the mandible can adversely affect most of the structures essential for mastication. Five subjects who had hemimandibular resections for cure of squamous cell carcinoma were studied. Masticatory function tests were conducted pre‐ and post‐surgery and post‐prosthetic rehabilitation.

Rehabilitating dentulous hemimandibulectomy patients
Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1976A hemimandibulectomy can have many debilitating consequences, such as an eccentric occlusion, a disoriented masticatory cycle, facial disfigurement, distorted speech, and salivation problems. If prosthetic treatment begins some time following surgery and the cicatricial tissue has already consolidated, additional treatment time is necessary.

Prosthodontic rehabilitation of an edentulous hemimandibulectomy patient
Edentulous patients with lateral discontinuity defects of the mandible pose a challenge for the prosthodontist. With variable degrees of bony and soft-tissue resection, the prosthodontic prognosis is dependent on a number of complex factors. Complete dentures in such patients are primarily given for improvement of esthetics. In a selected few patients,

Hemimandibulectomy without bone grafting: Report of a case
AbstractSome patients require hemimandibulectomy who are poor candidates for reconstructive surgery or who do not want to subject themselves to multiple surgical episodes. With the use of an articulated external skeletal fixation appliance, near‐normal esthetics and function can be achieved in these patients without bone grafting.
