Extension, torsion and expansion of an incompressible, hemitropic Cosserat circular cylinder

Journal of Elasticity, 1981
Constitutive equations for the stress and couple stres on an incompressible, hemitropic, constrained Cosserat material are derived, and the theory is applied to study the problem of finite extension, torsion and expansion of a circular cylinder. As in the theory of isotropic simple elastic materials, it is found that the deformation is controllable by ...

Hemitropic properties of thin non-centrosymmetric 3D woven textile composites

Composites Science and Technology, 2019
Due to their microstructural architecture, 3D woven textile composites, (3DWTC), exhibit complex macroscopic behavior, which cannot be effectively captured using classical continuum theories. One reason for this can be attributed to the ratio of the characteristic microscopic and macroscopic length scales, (d and L, respectively), which violates the ...

On the elastic–plastic response of hemitropic Cosserat solids

Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids
A model for the elastic–plastic response of solids is formulated on the basis of the concept of a materially uniform Cosserat continuum. Plastic deformation and rotation tensors are defined in terms of invertible mappings of a local archetypal state, encoding the constitutive response of the material, to a neighborhood of a material point in an ...

Initial Stresses and Skin Effects in a Hemitropic Cosserat Continuum

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1967
In this paper, constitutive relations are derived for a linear Cosserat continuum possessing hemitropic symmetry. In such a continuum, the microstructure has a screwlike property, or handedness, and can support initial couple stresses of twist. These initial stresses serve as a model for cohesion.

Representations for transversely hemitropic and transversely isotropic stress-strain relations

Journal of Elasticity, 1995
The author derives a representation for the set of constitutive equations for the second Piola-Kirchhoff stress tensor for a simple elastic material point when the material is either transversely hemitropic or transversely isotropic. The author restricts his attention to polynomial stress-strain relations.

The Nye Cells and Figures for Athermic Hemitropic, Isotropic, and Ultraisotropic Micropolar Elastic Solids

Mechanics of Solids
The paper deals with a method of the Nye figures construction for micropolar elastic solids. The method of tensors of the 4th and 3rd ranks representations by means of blocks of two-dimensional matrices and relationships between their elements is widely known in crystallography.
