Hemodialysis in the Home

JAMA, 1964
Treatment of the patient with uremia by hemodialysis has evolved from the use of a clumsy, complicated piece of apparatus requiring the constant supervision of a physician to a point where the patient may safely utilize the procedure himself unattended and in his home. Elsewhere in this issue (p 92) Rae and his associates describe their experience with

Essentials of Vascular Access for Home Hemodialysis.

Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease, 2021

Home Hemodialysis: A Comparison of In-center and Home Hemodialysis Therapy in a Cohort of Successful Home Hemodialysis Patients

ASAIO Journal, 2009
We retrospectively evaluated 29 patients dialyzed for 6 months in-center on Fresenius 2008H or 2008K dialysis machines followed by 6 months at home using the Fresenius 2008K@home to determine the safety and efficacy of home hemodialysis (HHD) using the 2008K@home. Patients who initiated HHD were identified from order records and qualified for inclusion

Prescriptions for home hemodialysis

Hemodialysis International, 2015
AbstractPrescribing a regimen that provides “optimal dialysis” to patients who wish to dialyze at home is of major importance, yet there is substantial variation in how home hemodialysis (HD) is prescribed. Geographic location, patient health status and clinical goals, and patient lifestyle and preferences all influence the selection of a prescription ...

HEMODIALYSIS IN THE HOME

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1968
Twenty-seven patients with chronic renal failure have been trained in a community hospital for home dialysis. Six patients subsequently received renal homotransplants. The remaining 21 live an average of 230 miles from the training center, the majority in rural communities. Sixteen are cared for entirely by their local physicians.

A Systematic Review of the Qualitative Research on Barriers and Facilitators to Home Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis international. International Symposium on Home Hemodialysis
The growing prevalence of chronic kidney disease has led to an increased demand for kidney replacement therapies. Although a kidney transplant is the preferred treatment for patients, many patients require dialysis temporarily before receiving a ...

Patient Training and Patient Safety in Home Hemodialysis.

American Society of Nephrology. Clinical Journal
The success of a home hemodialysis (HD) program depends largely on a patient safety framework and the risk tolerance of a home dialysis program. Dialysis treatments require operators to perform dozens of steps repeatedly and reliably in a complex ...

Pilot study to reduce interdialytic weight gain by provision of low‐sodium, home‐delivered meals in hemodialysis patients

Hemodialysis international. International Symposium on Home Hemodialysis, 2020

Factors affecting uptake of home hemodialysis among self‐care dialysis unit patients

Hemodialysis international. International Symposium on Home Hemodialysis, 2020
Superior outcomes have been reported among hemodialysis (HD) patients who take active control over their dialysis treatment either at self‐care satellite dialysis units or home compared to the regular in‐center hemodialysis patient.
