Severe Outbreak of Saprolegnia Spp. Infection in Spotted Snakehead (Channa punctata, Bloch 1793): Clinical Assessment, Histopathology, Haemato‐Biochemical Indices and Insights Into Therapeutic Effects

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 5, September 2025.
Spotted snakehead (Channa punctata) naturally infected with Saprolegnia spp. were confirmed by clinical signs, wet mount examination and histopathology. In the therapeutic trial using various chemotherapeutics, elevated temperature combined with 2% NaCl (T4) resulted in the highest survival rate (70%). ABSTRACT Saprolegniasis, caused by Saprolegnia spp.

Pre‐operative reference ranges for ROTEM® sigma in patients undergoing cardiac surgery: a secondary analysis of two prospective trial cohorts

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 80, Issue 8, Page 935-945, August 2025.
Summary Introduction Rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM®) is used widely in cardiac surgery. Reference ranges are derived from healthy volunteers but may not be interchangeable with those from patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Furthermore, sex and age seem to influence rotational thromboelastometry profiles.

Electrical Burns: A Retrospective Study at the Lebanese Burn Center in Geitaoui Hospital, Lebanon (2011–2024)

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Electrical burns are among the most severe burn injuries, often leading to deep tissue damage, systemic complications, and prolonged hospitalisation. In Lebanon, limited national data on electrical burn injuries limits the understanding of their epidemiology and management.

Recommended Hematocrit in Patients With Sepsis: An Observational Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Sepsis is a critical condition requiring optimized clinical management, especially in terms of hematocrit. The relationship between early stage of hematocrit and mortality in patients with sepsis remains underexplored. Method This observational cohort study used data from the eICU Collaborative Research Database. Hematocrit

A longitudinal analysis of pathogen shedding patterns in confiscated eastern box turtles

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 89, Issue 5, July 2025.
Seventeen confiscated eastern box turtles were sampled for 4 pathogens monthly for a year to determine optimal sampling strategies and variation in pathogen shedding patterns. Observed prevalence values were within 10% of unbiased prevalence values, but the probability of detecting pathogens in an infected turtle during a given month was generally low,

Increased risk of hemorrhage in patients with mild thrombocytopenia at delivery admission

open access: yesPregnancy, Volume 1, Issue 4, July 2025.
Abstract Objective Maternal hemorrhage is a major contributor to pregnancy morbidity and mortality worldwide. Identifying risk factors for hemorrhage is critical to optimizing patient safety and preventing patient morbidity. Prior studies examining the potential association between mild thrombocytopenia and the risk of postpartum hemorrhage have had ...

Transition From Intraoperative Vancomycin‐Piperacillin Tazobactam to Vancomycin‐Cefepime Does Not Change Acute Kidney Injury or Renal Recovery Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Heart Transplantation

open access: yesClinical Transplantation, Volume 39, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction The impact of empiric intraoperative vancomycin and piperacillin‐tazobactam (VPT) compared to vancomycin and cefepime (VC) on AKI is equivocal, and renal recovery and infection outcomes have not been studied in this context. Further, this has not been studied in patients undergoing orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT).

A prospective non‐inferiority trial of pathogen reduced platelets compared to non‐pathogen reduced platelets for correction of viscoelastic platelet function testing in cardiac surgery

open access: yesTransfusion, Volume 65, Issue 7, Page 1293-1306, July 2025.
Abstract Background Cardiac surgery on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) may alter platelet (PLT) function causing bleeding. The goal of this study is to evaluate the hemostatic effect of PRT‐PLTs compared to untreated PLTs stored in platelet additive solution (PAS) following transfusion in bleeding patients undergoing cardiac surgery on CPB.
