Hemolysis and augmentation of hemolysis by neutral steroids and bile acids

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1965
Abstract Thirty-five neutral steroids and bile acids have been studied for their ability to lyse rabbit erythrocytes. Hemolytic activity was found to be associated with the 5-β-H configuration. A few Δ-4,5 steroids were active, but 5-α-H compounds were inactive.

C3-mediated extravascular hemolysis in PNH on eculizumab: Mechanism and clinical implications.

Seminars in hematology (Print), 2018
The introduction of eculizumab, a human monoclonal antibody against the C5 component of complement, has changed radically the management of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). The blockade of the terminal complement pathway by eculizumab abrogates

Thrombin generation by hemolysis

Blood Coagulation & Fibrinolysis, 2007
Hemolysis is the fragmentation of erythrocytes into microparticles (Hb-MP). Clinical hemolysis can result in a severe procoagulant state. The influence of Hb-MP on thrombin generation was quantified. Unfrozen citrated normal plasma (five donors) was supplemented with 0 or 1 g/l Hb-MP obtained through erythrocyte destruction by hypotonic lysis, freezing/

An Analysis of Risk Factors for Hemolysis in Children on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation*

Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, 2018
Objectives: Hemolysis is a known complication of pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation associated with renal failure and mortality. We sought to identify predictors of hemolysis in pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation patients and ...

Hemolysis and Thrombocytopenia

2002
Some organs of the body are uniquely associated with specific diseases resulting from disturbance or failure of their own structure or function. For example, renal failure is the consequence of disorders of the kidneys, and myocardial infarction results from structural damage to the heart.
