Hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) occurs due to maternal IgG antibodies crossing the placenta, thereby producing hemolysis mainly due to Rh incompatibility and to a lesser extent by ABO and Kell groups. Clinical presentation of HDN depends upon the severity of red cell lysis. It may develop mild jaundice and anemia to hydrops fetalis.
