Infectious Mononucleosis Causing Acute Liver Failure and Hemolytic Anemia in a Patient with Underlying Hereditary Hemochromatosis

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncology, 2020
Infectious mononucleosis is a largely benign disease process that occurs secondary to infection with the Epstein-Barr virus. However, it can also present with more serious complications, including auto-immune hemolytic anemia and acute liver failure ...

Hemolytic Anemia of Wilson’s Disease

open access: yesGastroenterology, 1974
Two patients with Wilson’s disease presented with severe hemolytic anemia and evidence of liver decompensation. The hemolytic episodes appeared to be related to the release of copper from tissues into plasma and urine. Patient 1, whose diagnosis and treatment were delayed, succumbed, while patient 2 is alive and well.

Miniaturized Devices for On‐the‐Spot Generation of Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An intracorporeal extrusion device is developed for on‐the‐spot generation of vascular grafts with tunable diameters spanning from 1 to 6 mm. The device uses biomimetic polymers and light, to promptly obtaining biocompatible and high‐burst pressure‐resistant grafts.

Anti-Rh17 Alloimmunization: A Rare Case of Severe Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn and Review of the Literature

open access: yesJournal of Pediatrics Review, 2020
Background: ABO/Rh incompatibilities are common causes of hemolytic disease of newborn. Alloimmunization due to minor RBC antigens may also cause severe hemolysis and hyperbilirubinemia necessitating exchange transfusion in the early neonatal period ...

A Case of Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn due to Dia Antibody

open access: yesCase Reports in Pediatrics, 2015
Anti-Dia is a clinically significant red cell antibody known to cause hemolytic disease of the newborn. Here, we report on a case of mild hemolytic disease of the newborn caused by Dia antibody.

ROS‐Driven Nanoventilator for MRSA‐Induced Acute Lung Injury Treatment via In Situ Oxygen Supply, Anti‐Inflammation and Immunomodulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A ROS‐driven in situ oxygen supply nanoventilator based on enzyme nanocapsule can convert ROS into O2 through enzyme cascade reaction between SOD and CAT to relieve lung hypoxia, and kill MRSA by releasing vancomycin, which effectively reduces HIF‐1α expression and balances pro‐inflammatory/anti‐inflammatory macrophages ratio, thereby reducing the ...

SICKLE CELL DISEASE - CASE REPORTS

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Medical Association, 2003
Sickle cell diseases are inherited hematological diseases, prevalent in certain parts of the world. We report two cases of sickle cell diseases, first being sickle cell b-thalassaemia and second homozygous sickle cell disease (SS).

The role of mutation rate variation and genetic diversity in the architecture of human disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We have investigated the role that the mutation rate and the structure of genetic variation at a locus play in determining whether a gene is involved in disease. We predict that the mutation rate and its genetic diversity should be higher in genes associated with disease, unless all genes that could cause disease have already been identified ...

Targeting Decidual CD16+ Immune Cells with Exosome‐Based Glucocorticoid Nanoparticles for Miscarriage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Exosome‐based nanoparticles (GC‐Exo‐CD16Ab) are designed to deliver glucocorticoids (GC) specifically to decidual CD16+ NK cells and macrophages. This targeted delivery effectively suppresses the cytotoxicity of decidual NK cells, inhibits M1 macrophage polarization, and modulates the decidual microenvironment.

Hemolytic disease of the newborn due to isoimmunization with anti-E antibodies: a case report

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Pediatrics, 2002
Minor blood group hemolytic disease is extremely rare, since the overall potency of minor blood groups in inducing antibodies is significantly lower when compared with that of Rh (D) antigen.
