The hemoplasmas are the trivial name for a group of erythrocyte-parasitizing, non-cultivable in vitro bacteria of the genus Mycoplasma that have been described in several mammalian hosts worldwide. This study is the first report of hemoplasmas in marine mammals.

Prevalence and clinicopathologic studies historically relied on blood-smear diagnosis, but systematic studies using current molecular techniques are warranted.

Veterinary Parasitology: Regional Studies and ReportsData on feline hemotropic mycoplasmas and piroplasmids in Taiwan are limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of hemotropic mycoplasmas and piroplasmids in cats in central Taiwan, as well as to conduct a phylogenetic analysis of the detected pathogens.

The aims of this work were to establish a chronic pig infection model and to clarify unrecognized transmission pathways of M. suis. In addition, proteomics-based investigations of M. suis should be performed to improve the knowledge on the host pathogen interactions and host adaptation in IAP.
