Properties of Hemp Shive Panels with Different Resin Content

Bulletin of the Transilvania University of Brasov. Series II: Forestry • Wood Industry • Agricultural Food Engineering, 2023
Wood-based panels are one of the leading materials for frame structures of furniture. The worldwide shortage of wood raw materials necessitates searching for alternative sources to produce panels. Hemp shives are a representative of precisely this type of raw material. They are characterised by low bulk density and high fibre strength.

Influence of Density on the Withdrawal Staple Strength from Hemp Shive Panels

Bulletin of the Transilvania University of Brasov. Series II: Forestry • Wood Industry • Agricultural Food Engineering, 2023
Particleboards are the main material used in the production of furniture and furnishings. The shortage of wood raw material and the everincreasing amount of particleboards produced suggest a search for alternative raw material sources for this panel type.

The Preparation of a Carbonaceous Adsorbent via Batch Pyrolysis of Waste Hemp Shives

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
The study focuses on the two-stage process of the thermal treatment of waste hemp shives aimed at obtaining a carbonaceous adsorbent. In the first stage, pyrolysis was carried out in a retort apparatus, which, at temperatures in the range of 450–850 °C, provided approximately 22.6–29.9% of the solid residue, 31.6–34.0% of the condensate, and 38.5–43.4%

Pretreated hemp shives: Possibilities of conversion into levoglucosan and levoglucosenone

Industrial Crops and Products, 2019
Abstract This study aims to evaluate the possibilities of the production of anhydrosugar rich bio-oil by fast pyrolysis. Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) shives were used as the raw material for the study. Hemicelluloses were converted to furfural by catalytic hydrothermal pretreatment, while the left-over lignocellulose (LC) was subjected to ...

Susceptibility of drilling particleboard with share of hemp shives [PDF]

open access: possibleBiuletyn Informacyjny Ośrodka Badawczo-Rozwojowego Przemysłu Płyt Drewnopochodnych w Czarnej Wodzie, 2021
The influence of the share of hemp shives in individual layers of the three-layer particleboard on its susceptibility to drilling was investigated. Seven variants of three-layer particleboards were produced with the share of 0, 10 and 25% hemp shives in either the face or core layer, as well as in the face and core layers, respectively.
