Hennig’s enkaptic system

Cladistics, 2009
AbstractHennig’s phylogenetic system is characterized by an asymmetry between (sexually reproducing) species that form tokogenetic systems, versus monophyletic taxa that form a phylogenetic system. This was claimed to reflect a conflict between two hierarchies, i.e.

Willi Hennig’s dichotomization of nature

Cladistics, 2011
Two formal assumptions implied in Willi Hennig's "phylogenetic systematics" were repeatedly criticized for not being biologically grounded. The first is that speciation is always dichotomous; the second is that the stem-species always goes extinct when its lineage splits into two daughter species.

Haeckel or Hennig?

Human Development, 1984
This article discusses the conditions of validity of customary phylogenetic (not phenetical) procedures. It starts not from the ‘species’, but from the internal allomorphy of proved short lineages. The requisites of homogeneity and completeness for such lineages seem satisfied by the Hennigian procedure but not by the Haeckelian one.

Hennig, History, and Hubris

Inference: International Review of Science, 2020
Rather than with Darwin or even Hennig, a more fitting context to understand cladistics can be found in the work of Linnaeus and the many others who studied what a natural classification might be.
