The Brand‐New Overestimation Effect: Materialism and Identity Misforecasting As Cognitive Barriers to Second‐Hand Consumption

open access: yesPsychology &Marketing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the rise of circular fashion, buying brand‐new garments remains the societal norm. This research identifies a cognitive bias hindering sustainable consumption: identity misforecasting, by which consumers mispredict how much a brand‐new purchase will enhance their identity.

Taxonomy of the family Strongylophthalmyiidae (Diptera: Nerioidea) in Korea

open access: yesJournal of Asia-Pacific Biodiversity
The family Strongylophthalmyiidae is a poorly known taxon in Korea, and only two species, Strongylophthalmyia ustulata Zetterstedt, 1847, and Strongylophthalmyia raricornis Shatalkin, 1981 have been recorded until now.

Periodic Travelling Wave Solutions of Discrete Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2017
The existence of nonzero periodic travelling wave solutions for a general discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation (DNLS) on one-dimensional lattices is proved. The DNLS features a general nonlinear term and variable range of interactions going beyond the

Suppression of Oscillation and Ghosting in RF‐Spoiled Gradient‐Echo‐Based Dynamic Imaging

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose This study aims to address the suppression of oscillation and ghosting appearing in RF‐spoiled gradient‐echo‐based dynamic imaging, which is caused by the pseudo‐steady state (PSS) of magnetization. Theory and Methods We extended the concept of the previous RF phase‐cycle‐adapted averaging method to RF‐spoiled gradient‐echo‐based cine (

Characterising fine‐scale habitat associations for range expanding species with limited data: a case study on the West Nile Virus vector, Culex modestus

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
The ecological and epidemiological consequences of species expanding into new areas are growing concomitantly with climate change. Those aiming to monitor species expanding in range must make optimal use of finite resources to deliver effective surveillance capable of detecting new incursions and range expansions.

Evaluating land–sea linkages using land cover change and coral reef monitoring data: A case study from northeastern Puerto Rico

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Land cover change that leads to increased nutrient and sediment runoff is an important driver of change in coral reef ecosystems. In this study, we combined satellite remote sensing and field monitoring to assess concomitant changes in watershed land cover and coral cover in northeastern Puerto Rico in 2000–2015.
