Mining knowledge for HEp-2 cell image classification
Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, 2002HEp-2 cells are used for the identification of antinuclear autoantibodies (ANAs). They allow for recognition of over 30 different nuclear and cytoplasmic patterns, which are given by upwards of 100 different autoantibodies. The identification of the patterns has recently been done manually by a human inspecting the slides with a microscope.

Adherence of Helicobacter pylori to HEp-2 cells
Journal of Infection, 1992The adherence of 25 strains of Helicobacter pylori was evaluated in HEp-2 cells. These bacterial isolates, obtained from Chilean patients with gastric disorders, were also tested for haemagglutination of human red blood cells. Adherence of HEp-2 cells was expressed as a common property of all strains, irrespective of whether the cultures were grown on ...

Escherichia coli adherence to HEp-2 cells with prefixed cells
Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1995We describe a new method which uses cold absolute methanol-prefixed cells for adherence of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli to HEp-2 cells. We found that a method using bacteria grown in Penassay broth to 10(6) to 10(7) CFU/ml and incubated with prefixed cells for 3 h at 37 degrees C, showed 100% sensitivity and specificity against a method using live

Segmentation of HEp-2 cells centromere pattern
2017 2nd IEEE International Conference on Recent Trends in Electronics, Information & Communication Technology (RTEICT), 2017According to NIH, an autoimmune diseases have infected almost 23.5 million peoples of the USA. The detection of such autoimmune disease is done by using Antinuclear Antibodies test of Human Epithelial pattern 2 (HEp-2) cells. It is needed to design an automatic system for ANA testing, which involves the stage of segmentation of HEp-2 cells.

Mitotic cells recognition in HEp-2 images
Pattern Recognition Letters, 2014Abstract Indirect immunofluorescence is the recommended method to detect autoantibodies in patient serum, which could cause connective tissue diseases. One step of the diagnostic procedure needs to distinguish between mitotic and interphase cells in HEp-2.

Trichosanthin affects HSV-1 replication in Hep-2 cells
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2010Trichosanthin (TCS) is a type I ribosome-inactivating protein that inhibits the replication of both human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). The mechanism of inhibition is not clear. This investigation explored the effects of TCS on the stages of HSV-1 infection in Hep-2 cells, from attachment to release.

Abstract Hep-2 cells are commonly used as substrate in immunofluorescence tests. At the ultrastructural level, the nucleus of HEp-2 cell is characterized by a small amount of dense chromatin and, in the interchromatinic areas, by large nucleoli and by several types of nuclear bodies.

Automatic Analysis of Immunofluorescence Patterns of HEp‐2 Cells
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2007Abstract: The standard screening test for the recognition of autoimmune diseases is the proof of autoantibodies in serum of patients by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) based on HEp‐2 cells. Manual evaluation of this test is very subjective, slow, and there are no objective parameters as guidelines available.

Effect of the bioflavonoid morin on HEp-2 cells
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1994Bioflavonoids are plant compounds which aid in disease resistance (MariniBettolo and Monache 1977) and attract pollinating insects (Thompson et al. 1972). Flavonoids have been shown to affect biological systems variably, having antibacterial, antiviral (Miski et al. 1983), antifungal (Donnelly 1977), mutagenic (Brown 1980), antineoplastic and/or enzyme

Antinuclear antibodies: A contemporary nomenclature using HEp-2 cells
Journal of Autoimmunity, 2010The choice of terms used to describe indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) staining patterns of autoantibodies binding to HEp-2 cells is at present quite varied and disordered because no accurate consensus on names and descriptions exist. The aim of our study was to propose a logical and ordered IIF classification taxonomy based on 29 different selected ...
