Severe Thrombocytopenia Is Associated With Bleeding in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients Receiving Antiangiogenic Therapy

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
Thrombocytopenia is common in hepatocellular carcinoma and may increase bleeding risk during antiangiogenic therapy, yet the clinically relevant platelet threshold remains uncertain. We found that a baseline platelet count < 50 × 109/L was associated with bleeding; patients below this cutoff had a substantially higher bleeding rate than those with ...

Erythropoietic protoporphyria: hepatic cirrhosis

British Journal of Dermatology, 1978
Observations on liver pathology and function were made on 12 patients with erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). Needle liver biopsies in 3 of 11 patients showed mild portal or periportal fibrosis without evidence of abnormal liver function. One patient (Case 12), died from hepatic cirrhosis and failure at the age of 11 years, the youngest yet reported.

Hepatic Circulation in Cirrhosis

Clinics in Gastroenterology, 1985
Using the multiple indicator dilution approach, events occurring in the microvascular bed can be characterized and are compatible with the two kinds of anatomical alterations in cirrhotic livers: capillarization and intrahepatic shunts. The combination of these two kinds of alteration contributes to the progressive limitation of the blood-liver ...

Viral Hepatitis and Cirrhosis

Clinics in Gastroenterology, 1975
Most of the knowledge of post-hepatitic cirrhosis comes from studies performed in the last five years on the hepatitis B antigen-related variety. The position of other types of hepatitis (particularly type A) as an aetiological factor in cirrhosis remains conjectural.
