Fowl adenovirus species C serotype 4 is attributed to the emergence of hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome in chickens in China

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2016
Since July in 2015, an emerging infectious disease of Hepatitis-Hydropericardium syndrome (HHS) was prevalent in chicken flocks in China. To confirm the causative agent and investigate the epidemiology of the disease, a total of 38 chicken flocks including 187 samples from Jilin, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Henan, Anhui, Hubei, Jiangxi, Xinjiang, Shandong ...

An inactivated vaccine based on artificial non-pathogenic fowl adenovirus 4 protects chickens against hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome

Veterinary Microbiology, 2022
Hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome (HHS) in birds is mainly caused by virulent fowl adenovirus 4 (FAdV-4). A novel genotype, hypervirulent FAdV-4, emerged in 2015 with a high mortality rate ranging from 30 % to 100 % in chickens. Vaccination is an economically feasible method to control HHS.

Recombinant FAdV-4 fiber-2 protein protects chickens against hepatitis–hydropericardium syndrome (HHS)

Vaccine, 2014
Virulent fowl adenovirus (FAdV) serotype 4 strains are the etiological agents of hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome (HHS), a highly infectious disease in chickens with severe economic impact. In the present study, three different FAdV-4 derived capsid proteins, fiber-1, fiber-2, and hexon loop-1, were expressed in a baculovirus system and tested for ...

A novel inactivated bivalent vaccine for chickens against emerging hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome and infectious bursal disease

Veterinary Microbiology, 2022
The emerging hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome (HHS) caused by the novel genotype of fowl adenovirus 4 (FAdV-4) and the infectious bursal disease (IBD) caused by the infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) are important avian diseases, both cause huge economic losses to the poultry industry.

The First Occurrence of Hepatitis-Hydropericardium Syndrome in Iran and Effective Applied Control Measures in the Affected Commercial Broiler Flock

Avian Diseases, 2022
Fowl adenoviruses cause three economically important diseases in broiler chicken flocks: hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome (HHS), inclusion body hepatitis (IBH), and adenoviral gizzard erosion. IBH has not been considered a serious threat in northeast Iran since the last decade, because no major effect on flock performance has been noticed along with
