Monitoring response to hepatitis B and C in EU/EEA: testing policies, availability of data on care cascade and chronic viral hepatitis-related mortality – results from two surveys (2016) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Objectives: The World Health Organization (WHO) developed a European Regional Action Plan (EAP) to fast-track action towards the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis. Robust monitoring is essential to assess national programme performance.

Correlation Between Fecal Microbiota and Corticosteroid Responsiveness in Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia: an Exploratory Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uses gut microbiome data to predict corticosteroid response in patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Fecal samples from 212 patients with ITP are sequenced. Six machine‐learning algorithms are used to train predictive models. The support vector machine‐based model integrated clinical data and selected microbial species, diversities ...

Lamivudine switch therapy in chronic hepatitis B patients achieving undetectable hepatitis B virus DNA after 3 years of entecavir therapy: A prospective, open-label, multicenter study

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2016
The subsequent maintenance therapy in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients after long-term viral replication suppression is still uncertain. We aim to evaluate the efficacy of lamivudine (LAM) maintenance therapy in CHB patients achieving undetectable ...

Antigen‐Targeting Inserted Nanomicelles Guide Pre‐Existing Immunity to Kill Head and Neck Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a tumor‐targeted nanomicelle platform (preS1‐pHLIP) that exploits pre‐existing antiviral immunity to combat heterogeneous cancers. By delivering viral antigens to label tumors as virus‐like targets, the nanomicelles activate antiviral B and T cells, triggering in situ tumor lysis.

A Markov model for the spread of Hepatitis C [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
We propose a Markov model for the spread of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) among drug users who use injections. We then proceed to an asymptotic analysis (large initial population) and show that the Markov process is close to the solution of a non linear autonomous differential system.

The impact of illicit drug use on Spontaneous Hepatitis C Clearance: Experience from a large cohort population study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background and Aims: Acute hepatitis C infection usually ends in chronic infection, while in a minority of patients it is spontaneously cleared. The current population-based study is performed on a large cohort in Golestan province of Iran to examine the

Expression in Escherichia coli of a cloned DNA sequence encoding the pre-S2 region of hepatitis B virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
A DNA sequence encoding the entire pre-S2 region (amino acids 120-174; serotype ayw) of human hepatitis B virus envelope protein has been inserted into the lacZ gene of the plasmid pSKS105 yielding a recombinant, pWS3.

Sodium taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide is a functional receptor for human hepatitis B and D virus

open access: yeseLife, 2012
Human hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and HBV-related diseases remain a major public health problem. Individuals coinfected with its satellite hepatitis D virus (HDV) have more severe disease.

Cost‐Effective Identification of Hepatocellular Carcinoma from Cirrhosis or Chronic Hepatitis Virus Infection Using Eight Methylated Plasma DNA Markers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with liver cirrhosis and/or hepatitis virus B/C infection improves survival. Through marker discovery, 8 methylated DNA markers are identified and a logistic regression model (COMET‐LR) is built in the training set, which achieved 90.0% sensitivity at 97.4% specificity in the validation set.

Virus removal from aqueous environments with polyelectrolyte coatings on a polypropylene fleece

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 140, Issue 6, February 10, 2023., 2023
We present three methods to immobilize heparin‐mimicking, virus‐binding polymers on filter materials. Linear polyglycerol sulfate is grafted to the surface either via mussel‐inspired coating chemistry, or by using a benzophenone anchor. Herpes simplex virus type 1 and severe acute respiratory virus 2 are efficiently removed from solution upon ...
