Loss of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) usually indicates that hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been cured. However, little is known about factors predicting HBsAg loss in patients who spontaneously clear hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg).We studied 390 Taiwanese HBeAg-positive patients with chronic hepatitis who had spontaneously cleared HBeAg ...

Antibody to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) is a sensitive indicator of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. However, anti-HBc has been found in only a few patients with chronic hepatitis. Therefore, we tested for anti-HBc in 124 sera from 67 patients with histologically proven chronic hepatitis by the indirect fluorescent antibody technique.

Cardiac Disease, Hepatic Disease, and Hepatitis B Antigen
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1973Excerpt To the editor: The association of heart disease with infectious hepatitis is well known, but recent reviews (1, 2) fail to mention any relation of cardiac disease to hepatic disease associa...

Anticomplementary Hepatitis B Antigen
Archives of Internal Medicine, 1973Prognostic importance of anticomplementary hepatitis B antigen (HB Ag) tests among 63 patients with chronic active liver disease was assessed in a prospective controlled treatment trial. Patients were assigned randomly to groups receiving placebo, prednisone, azathioprine, or a prednisone-azathioprine combination.

HEPATITIS-B ANTIGEN IN COLONY MOSQUITOES
The Lancet, 1973Abstract Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were fed on or inoculated with blood or serum positive for hepatitis-B antigen (HBAg) or allowed to feed on the arm of an HBAg carrier. Pools of mosquitoes were tested by radioimmunoassay at intervals up to 45 days after exposure to HBAg. HBAg was detected long after the blood itself would have been digested.
