THE e ANTIGEN AND VERTICAL TRANSMISSION OF HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN

American Journal of Epidemiology, 1977
The relationship of e antigen (eAg) and its antibody (anti-e) to vertical transmission of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) from chronic asymptomatic HBsAg carrier women to their children was investigated in Taiwan. Sera from 20 of the 62 women studied were positive for eAg (32%); serum from only one woman was positive for anti-e (2%). A total of 85%

Surveillance for hepatitis B surface antigen mutants

Journal of Medical Virology, 2006
Hepatitis B viral (HBV) mutants can emerge in patients as a result of selection pressure from treatment options. Some mutations that occur in the immunodominant "a" determinant of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) can present as false negative results in HBsAg immunoassays.

The structure of hepatitis B surface antigen and its antigenic sites

BioEssays, 1987
AbstractHepatitis B virus infects about 200 million people worldwide yearly. The consequences of the infection range from mild, self‐limiting hepatitis with full recovery and immunity to chronic infection with liver disease of varying severity, including fulminant hepatitis and death.
