Extracellular vesicles in pharmacology: Innovations in drug delivery and therapeutic applications in cancer

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a diverse population of membrane nanoparticles secreted by nearly all cell types, playing a key role in intercellular communication by transferring bioactive macromolecular cargo. In cancer, EVs shape both the local tumour microenvironment and distant premetastatic niches.

S‐Adenosylmethionine (SAM) hydrolases counter increased SAM epimerisation in thermophilic archaea

S‐Adenosyl‐l‐methionine (SAM) is a vital enzyme cofactor. Epimerisation at the sulfonium centre of biologically active (SS,SCα)‐SAM is driven by heat, yielding biologically inactive (RS,SCα)‐SAM. Here, two novel archaeal SAM hydrolases from the thermophilic Sulfolobus acidocaldarius and the halophilic Haloferax volcanii are shown to cleave (RS,SCα)‐SAM.

Immune Consequences of Metabolic Syndrome and Its Treatment: A Cytokine Perspective

Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS) who were not using glucose‐and/or lipid lowering medication (GLLM) exhibited a broader cytokine production profile after in vitro antigen‐specific stimulation than PBMCs from individuals with MetS using such medications and from healthy donors.
