Seroprevalence of hepatitis C antibody in Peru
Journal of Medical Virology, 1992AbstractThe prevalence in Peru of antibody to hepatitis C virus (anti‐HCV) was determined in a survey of populations living in the northern jungle region and in groups at high risk of parenterally and sexually transmitted diseases. All sera were initially screened for anti‐HCV using commercial first and second generation ELISAs; repeatedly reactive ...

IgM antibody to hepatitis C virus in acute and chronic hepatitis C
Hepatology, 1991To assess possible role of testing for IgM-specific antibody in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with hepatitis C, we tested sera from 14 patients with acute and 97 patients with chronic non-A, non-B hepatitis for IgG and IgM antibody to hepatitis C virus.

Antibodies to Hepatitis C Virus in Kidney Transplantation
Nephron, 1992Ninety patients on dialysis, 241 cadaveric kidney donors and 27 cadaveric kidney recipients with a follow-up of 2 years, have been investigated as for anti-HCV positivity by means of 3 tests. As for patients on dialysis and cadaveric donors, the prevalence was 32 and 4%, respectively.

Significance of Igm Antibody to Hepatitis C Virus in Patients With Chronic Hepatitis C
Hepatology, 1992We assessed the correlation between the positivity for serum IgM antibody to hepatitis C virus and the activity of liver disease in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection. Serum samples were taken from 10 antibody to hepatitis C virus–positive asymptomatic patients with normal serum ALT levels, from 14 untreated ...

A Survey of Antibodies to Hepatitis C Virus in Ethiopia
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1993Antibodies to hepatitis C virus (HCV) were measured in 1,580 Ethiopian subjects representing urban and rural populations. Sera found positive by a repeated second generation enzyme immunoassay (EIA) were subjected to three additional confirmatory tests. The overall confirmed seroprevalence was 2.0%.

Recombinant immunoblot assay for hepatitis C virus antibody in chronic hepatitis
1992Testing for hepatitis C virus by ELISA requires confirmation by recombinant immunoblot assay (RIBA). The first-generation RIBA uses the same antigen as used in the ELISA and one further antigen. A second-generation RIBA in which two further antigens are present, detects positivity that is not found by either the ELISA or the original RIBA. Consequently,

Hepatitis C Virus Antibodies in Parasitic Infections
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1990To the Editors: The detection of antibodies to hepatitis C virus (HCV) using a recombinant-based immunoassay in patients who did not have risk factors for infection or evidence of liver disease has...

Serum IgM antibodies to hepatitis C virus in acute and chronic hepatitis C
1993A standardized commercially available immunoassay is not available for detection of IgM antibodies against hepatitis C virus antigens (IgM anti-HCV). Therefore, different "in-house" enzyme immunoassays have been assessed. These assays vary greatly in sensitivity, but specificity seems satisfactory in all of them.

Antibodies to hepatitis C virus in blood donors
European Journal of Epidemiology, 1990Recently a recombinant polypeptide of hepatitis C virus (HCV) has been developed by the Chiron Corporation in California. This antigen has been used to develop an ELISA test (Ortho Diagnostic Systems for serum anti-HCV antibodies. Preliminary data have shown that this virus is the major cause of NANB hepatitis in the world.
