Detección molecular de Hepatozoon felis en gatos con anemia en Uruguay

open access: yesVeterinaria (Montevideo), 2021
La Hepatozoonosis felina es una enfermedad parasitaria causada por Hepatozoon spp., que generalmente cursa de manera subclínica y cuando se manifiesta lo hace en asociación con una inmunodeficiencia inducida por una enfermedad concomitante. Hepatozoon species infecting domestic cats from countries of the Mediterranean basin

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases, 2023
Tick-borne diseases (TBDs) are caused by pathogens of human and veterinary concern representing a major public health issue worldwide. Although feline medicine has progressed much in the recent decades, data on feline TBDs (FeTBDs) remain scant ...

Hepatozoon silvestris sp. nov.: morphological and molecular characterization of a new species of Hepatozoon (Adeleorina: Hepatozoidae) from the European wild cat (Felis silvestris silvestris) [PDF]

open access: yesParasitology, 2016
SUMMARYBased on morphological and genetic characteristics, we describe a new species of Hepatozoon in the European wild cat (Felis silvestris silvestris), herein named Hepatozoon silvestris sp. nov. The study also provides the first data on the occurrence of H. felis in this wild felid.

Novel piroplasmid and Hepatozoon organisms infecting the wildlife of two regions of the Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2017
During 2009–2012, wild animals were sampled in two areas within the Amazon biome of Brazil, in the states of Mato Grosso and Pará. Animal tissues and blood were molecularly tested for the presence of Piroplasmida (genera Babesia, Theileria, Cytauxzoon ...

First autochthonous clinical case of Hepatozoon silvestris in a domestic cat in Italy with unusual presentation

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2022
Hepatozoon spp. is the causative agent of a vector-borne parasitic disease in many animal species. In felids, Hepatozoon felis, Hepatozoon canis and Hepatozoon silvestris have been molecularly isolated.

Ticks, Fleas, and Harboured Pathogens from Dogs and Cats in Cyprus

open access: yesPathogens, 2022
Ticks and fleas are blood-sucking ectoparasites that cause irritation and anaemia to their hosts and act as vectors of pathogens (vector-borne pathogens, VBPs) of relevance for animal and human health.

Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Bartonella spp., haemoplasma species and Hepatozoon spp. in ticks infesting cats: a large-scale survey

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2018
Background Ticks derived from cats have rarely been evaluated for the presence of pathogens. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Bartonella spp., haemoplasma species and Hepatozoon spp.

Cytauxzoon europaeus, Babesia vulpes, and Hepatozoon felis circulating simultaneously in a European wildcat (Felis silvestris) population in northern Spain

open access: yesResearch in Veterinary Science
The Iberian population of the European wildcat (Felis silvestris) is undergoing a decline and is highly fragmented. This study aimed to determine the occurrence and identity of tick-borne parasites (piroplasms and Hepatozoon spp.) in Navarre, one of the strongholds for wildcats in Spain.

Molecular Detection, Epidemiology and Genetic Diversity of Babesia microti Infecting Wild Rodents

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
Blood samples from 284 rodents captured across seven districts of Pakistan were screened for Babesia microti using 18S rRNA PCR. Overall prevalence was 12%, with infection detected in Rattus rattus, Mus musculus and Rattus norvegicus. Phylogenetic analysis showed close similarity with global isolates.
