Evolutionary history of Heptapteridae catfishes using ultraconserved elements (Teleostei, Siluriformes)

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, 2021
AbstractHeptapteridae is composed of 228 valid species allocated in 24 genera, making it the most diverse family within superfamily Pimelodoidea, a clade endemic to the Neotropical freshwaters. Heptapterids are widely distributed from southern Mexico to the Pampas of Argentina and occupy a variety of habitats generally in small‐ to medium‐sized rivers.

Triploidy in the hematology of jundia juveniles (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae) [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2012
This study compared the hematological characteristics of diploid and triploid of jundia, Rhamdia quelen juveniles, an important freshwater fish cultured in south Brazil. Hematological morphometry of erythrocytes were determined in blood smears under a light microscope.

Skin extract from Rhamdia quelen(Siluriformes: Heptapteridae) does not promote stress in conspecifics [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2014
Chemical communication is widely used in aquatic environments, where visual or auditory signals may not be always effective. Fish of the superorder Ostariophysi are known to display epidermal cells (club cells) that produce and store alarm substances, which are released to the water when the skin is damaged.

Segregação alimentar entre duas espécies de Heptapteridae no Rio Macaé, RJ [PDF]

open access: yesBiota Neotropica, 2009

Effect of Landscape Changes on Water Quality and Health Status of Heptapterus mustelinus (Siluriformes, Heptapteridae)

Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2019
Substances derived from anthropogenic activities induce changes in the physical and chemical characteristics of the aquatic environment. Physicochemical and biological studies are necessary to understand how changes in landscape affect the health of the aquatic environment.

Intraspecific chromosome analysis in Rhamdia quelen (Siluriformes, Heptapteridae)

2010
We studied the chromosomes of Rhamdia quelen. All specimens presented 2n = 58 and 36m+16sm+6st and FN = 116 and showed metacentric B chromosomes of medium size. The specimens from Água dos Patos river, Água das Pedras river and fish farm station showed a secondary constriction in the short arm of pair 28 (st), coincident with the NOR, while in the ...

Ovarian Structure and Oogenesis of Catfish Pimelodella vittata (Lütken, 1874) (Siluriformes, Heptapteridae)

Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia, 2012
SummaryThe morphology of the ovaries and oogenesis of Pimelodella vittata were studied using anatomical and histological techniques to provide information of its reproductive biology. Eighty adult females were captured trimonthly during the period November 2005 to October 2006.
