Clearing the Air: How Fine Particulate Matter Regulations Reshape Farmland Values in U.S. Corn and Soybean Regions

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigate the impact of air quality regulations targeting fine particulate matter (PM2.5) on farmland values in corn and soybean producing counties in the United States over the period 1997–2022. Using self‐reported farmland value data from the Agricultural Census and county‐level pollution classifications provided by the Environmental ...

The role of tropical forest fragment vegetation in maintaining arthropod diversity and spillover to adjacent sugarcane fields O papel da vegetação de fragmentos de floresta tropical na manutenção da diversidade de artrópodes e na sua disseminação para campos de cana‐de‐açúcar adjacentes

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Tree diversity increases arthropod richness and the abundance of beneficial arthropod groups within Atlantic Forest fragments. Higher insect richness in forest fragments is associated with greater richness in adjacent sugarcane fields, and both habitats share insect families, suggesting spillover.

Unpacking the Effects of Conflict on Fertilizer Use and Maize Yields: Empirical Evidence From Nigeria

open access: yesAgricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Conventional recommendations emphasize increasing the use of inorganic fertilizer to enhance maize yields in African countries south of the Sahara, but it is not clear how smallholders’ exposure to violent conflicts affect demand, yield responses, and the profitability of fertilizers. Our study tackles this question. We analyze how maize yield
