Boar management and semen handling factors affect the quality of boar extended semen

open access: yesPorcine Health Management, 2017
Artificial insemination (AI) is the preferred method for reproduction in the majority of the intensive pig production systems Worldwide. To this end, fresh extended ready-to-use semen doses are either purchased from AI-centres or produced by boars kept ...

A dairy herd-level study of postpartum diseases and their association with reproductive performance and culling.

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2017
The objectives of this study were to quantify the herd-level prevalence of postpartum diseases in a large number of dairy farms, and to identify prevalence alarm levels of these diseases based on association with a low prevalence of success at first ...

A New Class of Diarylethene Compounds that Exhibit Turn‐On Emission: From Aggregation‐Induced Emission to Anti‐Kasha Emission

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A new class of diarylethene compounds containing backbone phosphine oxide groups are reported, exhibiting turn‐on aggregation‐induced emission. Side chain functionalization enabled emission color tunability and turn‐on anti‐Kasha emission. Abstract Diarylethenes (DAE) are a well‐known class of photochromic compounds with diverse applications ranging ...

Prevalence of elevated milk β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations in Holstein cows measured by Fourier-transform infrared analysis in Dairy Herd Improvement milk samples and association with milk yield and components.

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2016
The purpose was to describe the prevalence and effect of elevated milk β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) as detected by routine Fourier-transform infrared analysis in Dairy Herd Improvement milk samples. Data collected over 4 yr included cow information as well as

Torsors, herds and flocks

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2011
This paper presents non-commutative and structural notions of torsor. The two are related by the machinery of Tannaka-Krein duality.

Impact of the Substitution Pattern in N–heterocyclic Olefin‐Substituted Phosphines on Palladium Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
The impact of olefin backbone substitution in N‐heterocyclic olefin‐substituted phosphines is investigated. While these ligands are highly electron‐donating, their catalytic activity in Pd‐catalyzed CN cross‐coupling reactions decreases as the size of the backbone substituent increases.

"Herd immunity": a rough guide.

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2011
The term "herd immunity" is widely used but carries a variety of meanings. Some authors use it to describe the proportion immune among individuals in a population.

Water‐Mediated 1,7‐Palladium Aryl‐to‐Aryl Migration in an Unusual Aryne Trimerization Enables the Synthesis of Multihelicenes with Profoundly Hindered Stereogenic Axes

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
In the presence of a Pd0 catalyst, large π‐extended arynes trimerize in an unusual manner to forge extremely compact and strained chiral benzenoids. This new trimerization reaction involves a 1,7‐Pd isomerization, a rare and poorly understood process that is elucidated.
