Competition Between Liquid‐Liquid Crystalline Phase Separation (LLCPS) and Liquid‐Liquid Phase Separation (LLPS) in Amyloid Fibril Colloidal Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that amyloid fibrils form nematic condensates via liquid–liquid crystalline phase separation (LLCPS). With increasing pH, this transition shifts toward disordered condensates formed through liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS), in which birefringence with lack of a coherent nematic field symmetry originates from enthalpic fibril ...

Biomimetic Membrane Interface Technologies for Detection and Isolation of CTCs and EVs: Advances and Opportunities in Liquid Biopsy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Biomimetic membrane interface engineering constructs functionalized detection platforms by integrating natural cell membranes, synthetic lipids, or hybrid membranes. This strategy effectively reduces background interference and enables efficient target capture and analysis, showing broad applications in circulating tumor cell separation, extracellular ...

Single-Cell ICP-MS in Veterinary Research: Measuring Cisplatin Uptake in Healthy and Cancerous Animal Cell Lines

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International
Platinum derivatives have been used in cancer treatment for several decades. However, the clinical effectiveness of these drugs is significantly hindered by their toxicity, resulting from accumulation in healthy cells and by the development of resistance

A Comparative Study of Major Risk Assessment (RA) Frameworks in Geologic Carbon Storage (GCS)

open access: yesFuels
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology presents a practical solution for reducing industrial carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through underground anthropogenic CO2 storage in depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs.

A Generalized Approach for Distal C–H Arylation of Organic Building Blocks: Unveiling the Role of Counter Anion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report a general strategy for meta‐selective C–H arylation using aryl iodides and a Pd(II)/Pd(IV) catalytic system guided by a removable directing group. DFT and experimental studies reveal that counter anion tuning (acetate to trifluoroacetate) significantly enhances selectivity.

Using participatory video to generate active agents of change at community level to address the drivers of antimicrobial resistance in two settings in Nepal

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background We present a community-based videomaking project that used Participatory Video (PV) to co-produce community-led resources to address the issue of antimicrobial resistance in Nepal.

Cost and Efficiency in Alberta Dairy Production [PDF]

open access: yes
This study investigates the relationships between farm size, milk yield, cost of production, and technical efficiency in the Alberta dairy industry. Estimates of a stochastic production frontier are obtained with two alternative methods; an iterative ...

Non‐Volatile Phase Modulation with Ultralow Energy Consumption Enabled by 2D Ferroelectric/TMD Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a hybrid WS2/CuInP2S6/graphene heterostructure integrated on a silicon nitride microring resonator for non‐volatile optical phase modulation with ultra‐low energy consumption and low insertion loss. While CIPS alone does not provide efficient optical index modulation, the engineered proposed device structure converts ferroelctric domain ...

Saturation Effect and Cyclical Herd Behavior [PDF]

open access: yes
We analyze a sequential decision model, where in every period a new agent seeks to determine the payoff of some actions. Every agent receives a possibly uninformative signal about the payoffs, and she observes previous choices.
