Rapamycin Exerts Its Geroprotective Effects in the Ageing Human Immune System by Enhancing Resilience Against DNA Damage

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
Using in vitro DNA damage assays in human T cells, ex vivo profiling of aged immune subsets and a small placebo‐controlled in vivo study, authors show that low‐dose rapamycin, a potent life‐extending mTOR inhibitor, enhances resilience against DNA damage in the human immune system.

The neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio as a marker of immunosenescence and COVID‐19 outcomes in the elderly: A narrative review

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, February 2026.
Abstract Older adults are highly vulnerable to severe COVID‐19. Unlike our previous work on broad immunosenescence, this review focuses on peripheral hematological markers as practical indicators of risk. A Prominent Pro‐Inflammatory Phenotype Is Observed in Replication and Stress‐Induced Senescent Mast Cells

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 10, October 2025.
Senescent mast cells express canonical senescence markers and develop a pro‐inflammatory phenotype characterized by SASP, increased MAPK and NFκB activation, and altered FcεRI and TLR4‐induced responses. Senescence causes increased mast cell‐dependent inflammaging and innate immunity responses in vivo.
