'Heritage Site: visualising an unreachable heritage' [PDF]
This paper centres on a major industrial heritage landmark in central Scotland known as the ‘Five Sisters’ on the edge of West Calder, a small town in West Lothian. Two hundred and forty metres high, the Five Sisters are spoil heaps (or ‘bings’), products of the oil shale mining industry active in this area in the nineteenth century.

Heritage sites and schoolchildren: insights from the Battle of the Boyne [PDF]
Children are very much under-represented in heritage tourism studies, particularly in terms of their own perspectives. This exploratory study begins to redress this imbalance by investigating how 34 primary school-going children experience and make sense of the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre, an Irish heritage site.
