Interannual variability of epibenthic communities in the Chukchi Sea, Alaska [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2015Epibenthic communities contain a wide range of organisms and serve an important role in marine ecosystems.

Macroid Formation in Salmacina stellaebayensis n. sp. From Mauritania's Baie de l'Étoile With New Insights on Mitogenome Evolution in Serpulidae (Annelida)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We describe Salmacina stellaebayensis n. sp. from Mauritania's Baie de l'Étoile and provide the first complete mitochondrial genome for the genus Salmacina. The species forms distinctive macroid colonies in Cymodocea nodosa seagrass meadows, offering new insights into serpulid life history and habitat specialization.

Diversity and new records of intertidal hermit crabs of the genus Clibanarius (Crustacea: Decapoda: Diogenidae) from Gujarat coast off the northern Arabian Sea, with two new records for the mainland Indian coastline

open access: yesJournal of Threatened Taxa, 2017
The present study reports seven hermit crab species of the genus Clibanarius, viz., C. infraspinatus, C. longitarsus, C. rhabdodactylus, C. rutilus, C. signatus, C. virescens, and C.

Marine benthic flora and fauna of Gourdon Bay and the Dampier Peninsula in the Kimberley region of North-Western Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Surveys undertaken to characterise the marine benthic habitats along the Dampier Peninsula and further south at Gourdon Bay in the Kimberley region of Western Australia were augmented with epibenthic sled sampling of soft and hard bottom habitats.

Targeted Airborne eDNA of an Invasive Wallaby: Effects of Sampler Type, Distance, and Environmental Conditions

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 1, January–February 2026.
Airborne eDNA detection of terrestrial vertebrates is influenced by sampler design, distance, and environmental conditions. Using a targeted qPCR assay, we show that active sampling and coarse‐particle filters significantly improve airborne detection of wallabies, with airborne eDNA detectable at 1 km distances and strongly modulated by sampler ...

Higher species richness and abundance of fish and benthic invertebrates around submarine groundwater discharge in Obama Bay, Japan

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology: Regional Studies, 2017
Study focus: There have been far more studies on how the variability in surface water discharge affects production of animal communities in aquatic ecosystems while less information has been accumulated on the mechanisms of how the groundwater supply ...

The effects of changing climate on faunal depth distributions determine winners and losers

open access: yes, 2014
Changing climate is predicted to impact all depths of the global oceans, yet projections of range shifts in marine faunal distributions in response to changing climate seldom evaluate potential shifts in depth distribution.

Facultative secondary lecithotrophy in the megalopa of the shrimp Lysmata seticaudata (Risso, 1816) (Decapoda : Hippolytidae) under laboratory conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Certain decapod crustaceans can catabolize internal reserves to undergo partial or full larval development. This feature is termed secondary lecithotrophy, if energy used results from plankton derived organic matter accumulated Ig earlier larval stages ...

Effect of hypoxia and anoxia on invertebrate behaviour: Ecological perspectives from species to community level [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Coastal hypoxia and anoxia have become a global key stressor to marine ecosystems, with almost 500 dead zones recorded worldwide. By triggering cascading effects from the individual organism to the community-and ecosystem level, oxygen depletions ...

Preschoolers' Scientific Curiosity and Inquiry Capabilities: An Ecological Research Approach

open access: yesJournal of Research in Science Teaching, Volume 63, Issue 1, Page 40-61, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Existing tools for measuring scientific curiosity often fail to capture its multifaceted, dynamic nature—particularly in early childhood, where behaviors are context‐dependent, non‐verbal, and emergent. These challenges limit our ability to understand and support young children's scientific engagement.
