SummaryAn elderly woman presented with a lump in the right groin, clinically suggestive of a femoral hernia, but surgical exploration revealed a cystic mass of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Post mortem examination showed it to be a metastic deposit of carcinoma of the gall‐bladder.

Management of appendicitis in a femoral hernia

Appendicitis in a femoral hernia is a rare occurrence often diagnosed intraoperatively. We present a case where the incarcerated appendicitis required division of the inguinal ligament for reduction. Appendectomy was carried out and because of contamination a primary McVay procedure was done to repair the femoral hernia.
