We present two cases of incarcerated de Garengeot’s hernia. This anatomical phenomenon is thought to occur in as few as 0.5% of femoral hernia cases and is a rare cause of acute appendicitis.

This is a report of a case who was admitted and operated on for a strangulated femoral hernia. The hernia sac contained a gangrenous appendix, which was excised and the hernia was repaired with sutures without complication.

Management of appendicitis in a femoral hernia
Appendicitis in a femoral hernia is a rare occurrence often diagnosed intraoperatively. We present a case where the incarcerated appendicitis required division of the inguinal ligament for reduction. Appendectomy was carried out and because of contamination a primary McVay procedure was done to repair the femoral hernia.
