At 5 weeks of development, the midgut has formed its primary loop (left). It is well established that the midgut is bounded cranially by the caudal end of the ventral mesentery and the presence of the common bile duct, but its caudal boundary remains to be established.

Diagnosis of degenerative myelopathy in a Boston terrier–French bulldog mixed breed

Canine degenerative myelopathy (DM) has been associated with mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 gene (SOD1). Although the SOD1:c.118G>A mutation has been identified in Boston terriers and French bulldogs, no histological‐confirmed degenerative myelopathy has been reported in either breed.

Use of porcine small intestinal submucosa for reconstruction of a soft palate defect following marginal resection of a melanoma in a dog

A 12‐year‐old castrated male golden retriever was referred for evaluation of a palatal mass. Computed tomography identified a 2.7 × 2.0 × 1.5 cm soft tissue mass extending from the caudal aspect of the hard palate to the rostral soft palate. Bilateral caudal maxillectomy was declined by owners; thus, a marginal resection was performed.
