Inguinal herniorrhaphy in women

Hernia, 2005
Inguinal hernias in women are relatively rare, and an outcome in this specific subgroup of hernias has not been documented in the literature. An analysis was performed using data from the prospective recording of 3,696 female inguinal hernia repairs in the national Danish hernia database, in the 5.5 year period from January 1, 1998 to June 30, 2003 ...

Laparoscopic Inguinal Herniorrhaphy

AORN Journal, 1994
Recent advances in laparoscopic techniques present a promising approach to the surgical treatment of inguinal hernias. Higher success rates, better cosmetic results, less pain, and shorter postoperative recovery periods have precipitated an increased consumer demand for laparoscopic rather than traditional herniorrhaphy.

Laparoscopic herniorrhaphy in girls

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1998
Laparoscopy has been used to evaluate the contralateral side in inguinal hernias. Once a hernia was identified in such procedures, laparoscopy was terminated and a conventional groin exploration was undertaken. This study presents a purely laparoscopic approach using miniature instruments without the use of a groin incision. The technique was applied in

Convalescence After Herniorrhaphy

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1972
To the Editor.— Kerry's recent LETTER ( 218 :740, 1971) about repair and convalescence after inguinal herniorrhaphy leaves an impression that should be corrected. We would agree with Kerry that, generally speaking, the most strenous activities—those involving maximum effort—are better postponed until four weeks have elapsed from operation; thus, a ...

Preperitoneal herniorrhaphy

Urology, 1975
The preperitoneal approach to inguinal hernia repair can easily be applied at the time of open prostatectomy. Our experience with this procedure is reported, and the surgical technique is described. A preperitoneal herniorrhaphy is easy to perform through the same incision as the prostatectomy, avoids opening new surgical spaces, adds little to the ...

Laparoscopic Extraperitoneal Herniorrhaphy

AORN Journal, 1996
ABSTRACTLaparoscopic extraperitoneal (LEP) herniorrhaphy procedures allow direct visualization and repair of many types of hernias (eg, direct, indirect, femoral, sliding, bilateral). Common complications of open herniorrhaphy procedures are avoided when LEP herniorrhaphy procedures are used because the peritoneum is not entered.

Transabdominal Preperitoneal Herniorrhaphy.

Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques, 1994
There have been multiple different approaches to laparoscopic herniorrhaphy with a tendency toward exposure of the preperitoneal space with placement of a prosthesis into this area. The transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) approach is a reasonably simple, safe repair, resulting in a less than 1% recurrence rate with minimal complications.

Prospective Comparison between Laparoscopic Preperitoneal Herniorrhaphy and Open Mesh Herniorrhaphy

The American Surgeon, 2001
Controversy persists regarding the most effective inguinal hernia repair. The purpose of this study is to compare the complications, charges, patient satisfaction, and recovery time between laparoscopic (LH) and open mesh herniorrhaphy (OH). A nonrandomized prospective analysis of 233 consecutive inguinal hernia repairs was performed over a 12-month ...

The Development of Inguinal Herniorrhaphy

Surgical Clinics of North America, 1984
The history of inguinal herniorrhaphy can be divided into pre- and post- Listerian eras. In this article Bassini's contribution is emphasized along with the preperitoneal approach, the saccular and acquired etiology of herniation, and the use of prostheses or relaxing incisions.

Herniorrhaphy

The American Journal of Surgery, 1987
The results of 6,321 consecutive herniorrhaphies have been reported. Over 20 percent of the cases were referred recurrences when first seen. Ninety-one percent of the patients were followed from 2 to 14 years, with an overall recurrence rate of 0.7 percent.
