Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus/human herpesvirus‐8–negative effusion‐based lymphoma: Report of 3 cases and review of the literature

Cancer Cytopathology, 2013
BACKGROUNDPrimary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is a rare subtype of large B‐cell lymphoma that arises in body cavities without detectable tumor masses. PEL is universally associated with Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV)/human herpesvirus‐8 (HHV8). Despite overlapping features, KSHV/HHV8‐negative effusion‐based lymphoma is a distinct entity from PEL.

Association of Toll-Like Receptor 3 Polymorphisms with Kaposi's Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus Infection Among Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Individuals in Xinjiang, China

Viral Immunology, 2023
Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a crucial role in the innate immune response to pathogens, and TLR3 could recognize and control the herpesvirus. We studied the effect of TLR3 polymorphisms on the risk of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) infection.

Primary human herpesvirus‐6 associated with an afebrile seizure in a 3‐week‐old infant

Journal of Medical Virology, 2002
AbstractWe describe a 3‐week‐old male infant with an afebrile seizure in whom serologic and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) findings support concomitant primary human herpesvirus 6 (HHV‐6) infection. Although HHV‐6 infection has been associated with first‐time febrile seizures and encephalitis in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised hosts, it has

Surveillance of Active Human Herpesvirus 6 Infection in Chinese Patients after Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation with 3 Different Methods

International Journal of Hematology, 2006
Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) reactivation was studied in 72 consecutive allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients and 53 "healthy" donors. The feasibilities of real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RQ-PCR), nested-PCR, and antigenemia assays in the assessment of HHV-6 reactivation were also evaluated.

Genome structure and virion polypeptides of the primate herpesviruses Herpesvirus aotus types 1 and 3: comparison with human cytomegalovirus

Journal of Virology, 1983
Two serologically distinguishable primate herpesviruses, Herpesvirus aotus type 1 and type 3, were examined with regard to their genomes and structural polypeptides. The duplex DNA genomes of these two viruses were found to be essentially identical in molecular weight (Mr approximately equal to 145 X 10(6)) and guanine plus cytosine composition (55 ...

Effect of recombinant DNA-derived bovine and human interferons on replication of bovine herpesvirus-1, parainfluenza-3, and respiratory syncytial viruses

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1986
SUMMARY Antiviral effects of recombinant DNA-derived bovine (Bo) and human (Hu) interferons (ifn) on the replication of bovine herpesvirus-1, parainfluenza-3, and respiratory syncytial viruses were studied. Bovine monolayer cultures were treated with recombinant DNA-produced Bo ifn-α 1, Bo ifn-β 2, Hu ifn-α A, or Hu ifn-α A/D and then challenge exposed

The association between fructosamine-3 kinase 900C/G polymorphism, transferrin polymorphism and human herpesvirus-8 infection in diabetics living in South Kivu

Acta Tropica, 2016
Prevalences of human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) infection and diabetes mellitus are very common in certain parts of Africa, containing iron-rich soils. We hypothesized that some genetic factors could have a link with susceptibility to HHV-8 infection. We focused on ferroportin Q248H mutation (rs11568350), transferrin (TF) polymorphism and fructosamine-3 ...

Optimization of chemical induction conditions for human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) reactivation with 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate (TPA) from latently-infected BC-3 cells

Biologicals, 2011
Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) persists as episomal DNA in latently-infected cells and can establish two alternative life cycles, latent or lytic. 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate (TPA) is a known inducer of HHV-8 in several human primary effusion lymphoma cell lines and has been widely used for HHV-8 reactivation; however, induction conditions have ...

[3-day fever: agreement between clinical diagnosis and seroconversion of type 6 human herpesvirus (HHV-6)].

Schweizerische medizinische Wochenschrift, 1992
The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between clinical diagnosis of exanthema subitum and seroconversion of herpes virus type 6 (HHV-6). 90 children with fever of unknown origin were investigated by 11 pediatricians in the Canton of Zürich, Switzerland, between October 1989 and June 1990.
