l-fucoside localization in the gills of the genus Takifugu and its possible implication in the parasitism of Heterobothrium okamotoi (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae)

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 2023
The monogenean parasite Heterobothrium okamotoi only parasitizes the gills of Takifugu rubripes. In this study, we hypothesized that the carbohydrates contribute to high host specificity of H. okamotoi.T. rubripes, T. niphobles, T. snyderi, and T. pardalis were used for UEA I staining of the gills and an in vivo challenge test against H. okamotoi.

Genetic variation in resistance of the tiger pufferfish Takifugu rubripes to a host-specific monogenean parasite Heterobothrium okamotoi

Fisheries Science, 2019
The tiger pufferfish Takifugu rubripes is one of the most valuable aquaculture species in Japan. In this study, we investigated the genetic variation in resistance to heterobothriosis caused by a host-specific monogenean parasite, Heterobothrium okamotoi, in the tiger pufferfish, and examined the possibility of selective breeding for enhancing ...

D-mannose-specific Immunoglobulin M in Grass Puffer (Takifugu niphobles), a Nonhost Fish of a Monogenean Ectoparasite Heterobothrium okamotoi, Can Act as a Trigger for its Parasitism.

Journal of Parasitology, 2020
Heterobothrium okamotoi, a monogenean gill parasite, exhibits high host specificity for the tiger puffer, Takifugu rubripes, and it has been experimentally verified that the parasite cannot colonize either closely related species such as the grass puffer Takifugu niphobles or distantly related fish such as the red seabream Pagrus major.

Involvement of host recognition by oncomiracidia and post-larval survivability in the host specificity of Heterobothrium okamotoi (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae)

International Journal for Parasitology, 2007
Heterobothrium okamotoi, a monogenean gill parasite, shows high host specificity for tiger puffer, Takifugu rubripes. In the present study, in vivo and in vitro experimental infections were conducted using various fish species, including T. rubripes, to understand the mechanisms of specificity. In in vivo experiments, T.

Challenge trials on the anthelmintic effect of drugs and natural agents against the monogenean Heterobothrium okamotoi in the tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes

Aquaculture, 2000
In vitro and oral administration challenge trials were performed to search for effective agents derived from natural sources (natural agents) against infections by the monogenean Heterobothrium okamotoi in the tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes. First, four drugs (praziquantel, levamisole, pyrantel pamoate and antimony sodium tartarate) were screened for ...
