A polyvalent and universal tool for genomic studies in gastropod molluscs (Heterobranchia)

Molluscs are the second most diverse animal phylum and heterobranch gastropods present ~ 44,000 species. These comprise fascinating creatures with huge morphological and ecological disparity. Such great diversity comes with even larger phylogenetic uncertainty and many taxa have been largely neglected in molecular assessments.

The taxonomy of the pulmonate superfamily Amphiboloidea is investigated with particular reference to Australasian taxa. Anatomical features of the alimentary, reproductive and central nervous systems differ substantially between taxa, and conchological, opercular and radular characters are also described.

Material collected during the BIOFAR and BIOICE programs, the collections in the Zoological museum in Copenhagen as well as collections made by the author are reported. Most of the pyramidellid material mentioned in “The Zoology of The Faroes” has been re-examined.

Systematics of Ophicardelus (Gastropoda: Heterobranchia: Ellobiidae)

Ophicardelus is currently used for a small group of estuarine ellobiid snails found in Australia and New Zealand, but a previous study (Hyman et al. 2004) suggested that it may not be monophyletic. In the present study, morphological data are used in a cladistic analysis to test the monophyly of Ophicardelus.

AbstractWe herein review the Adriatic opisthobranch fauna, provide an updated checklist of 223 species and assess their distribution at regional and country levels. New Adriatic records are provided for 67 opisthobranch taxa, adding three new records for the Italian coastline, five new records for Albania, eight for Croatia and 15 for Montenegro.
