Heteroclinic orbits in a spherically invariant system

Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 1991
Using numerical study, \textit{P. Friedrich} and \textit{H. Haken} dealt with steady state mode interactions for a convection problem in a spherical shell and revealed apparently chaotic trajectories which connected different equilibria of the system [see Phys. Rev. A 34, 2100-2120 (1986)]. These trajectories are suggestive of heteroclinic connections.

Heteroclinic Orbit, Forced Lorenz System, and Chaos

Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics, 2009
Forced Lorenz system, important in modeling of monsoonlike phenomena, is analyzed for the existence of heteroclinic orbit. This is done in the light of the suggested new mechanism for the onset of chaos by Magnitskii and Sidorov (2006, “Finding Homoclinic and Heteroclinic Contours of Singular Points of Nonlinear Systems of Ordinary Differential ...

Phase Transitions via Bifurcation from Heteroclinic Orbits

1983
This paper discusses some recent work with M. Gurtin and M. Slemrod on the displacement boundary value problem of a one-dimensional elastic material capable of exhibiting exchanges of phase. This study was motivated by some work of Ericksen [4], who showed that by taking a non-convex stress strain law, elasticity could model phase changes (see also ...
