Inverse Reinforcement Learning in Swarm Systems

open access: yes, 2017
Inverse reinforcement learning (IRL) has become a useful tool for learning behavioral models from demonstration data. However, IRL remains mostly unexplored for multi-agent systems.

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

Simulating Knowledge-Generation and -Distribution Processes in Innovation Collaborations and Networks [PDF]

open access: yes
An agent-based simulation model representing a theory of the dynamic processes involved in innovation in modern knowledge-based industries is described. The agent-based approach al-lows the representation of heterogeneous agents that have individual and ...

Anchorage‐independent and faster growth in clonal population from UV‐irradiated NER‐deficient cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UV‐irradiated cells expressing a DDB2 mutant protein unable to interact with PCNA (DDB2PCNA‐) form clones able to grow without anchorage. Different experimental approaches reveal heterogeneity in cell cycle regulation and drug response within these clones, emphasizing the crucial role of the DDB2‐PCNA interaction in preventing cellular transformation ...

Data-Driven Containment Control for a Class of Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems: A Model Free Adaptive Control Approach

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This paper studies the containment control problem of heterogeneous multi-agent systems (MASs) with multiple leaders. The follower agent dynamics are assumed to be unknown and nonlinear.

Labor-Market Heterogeneity, Aggregation, and the Lucas Critique [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper assesses biases in policy predictions due to the lack of invariance of "structural" parameters in representative-agent models. We simulate data under various fiscal policy regimes from a heterogeneous-agents economy with incomplete asset ...

Maladaptation in an unequal world: an evolutionary model with heterogeneous agents

open access: yesAnnals of Operations Research
AbstractMaladaptation is steadily increasing its presence in agenda and debates about climate change and its impacts. The term denotes actions undertaken, at the individual or collective level, to defend against the adverse effects of climate change or environmental degradation, but that ultimately exacerbate the underlying risk factors. In this paper,

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Comparing large-scale computational approaches to epidemic modeling: Agent-based versus structured metapopulation models

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2010
Background In recent years large-scale computational models for the realistic simulation of epidemic outbreaks have been used with increased frequency.

Income tax evasion in a society of heterogeneous agents: Evidence from an agent-based model [PDF]

open access: yes
We analyze the evolution and extent of income tax evasion under alternative governmental policies in an agent-based model with heterogeneous agents. A novel aspect of our modeling is the use of an exponential utility function, which allows us to assume ...
