Heterogeneous Catalysts for Biodiesel Production

open access: yesEnergy & Fuels, 2007
The production of biodiesel is greatly increasing due to its enviromental benefits. However, production costs are still rather high, compared to petroleum-based diesel fuel. The introduction of a solid heterogeneous catalyst in biodiesel production could reduce its price, becoming competitive with diesel also from a financial point of view.

Heterogeneous Catalysts

Science, 1980
Proven catalysts exist in many different forms and with many different kinds of composition. An understanding of how catalysts function is beginning to emerge in a few areas, and some superior catalysts have been developed as a result of this knowledge. Applications of new techniques and disciplines should lead to impressive advances in the years ahead.

Model Catalysts: Simulating the Complexities of Heterogeneous Catalysts

Annual Review of Physical Chemistry, 2012
Surface-science investigations have contributed significantly to heterogeneous catalysis in the past several decades. Fundamental studies of reactive systems on metal single crystals have aided researchers in understanding the effect of surface structure on catalyst reactivity and selectivity for a number of important reactions. Recently, model systems,

On the Nature of the ‘Heterogeneous' Catalyst:  Nickel-on-Charcoal

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2002
Results from aromatic aminations and Kumada couplings, together with spectroscopic analyses (TEM, EDX, ICP-AES, React-IR), reveal that catalysis using nickel-on-charcoal (Ni/C) is most likely of a homogeneous rather than heterogeneous nature. In the course of a reaction with Ni/C, nickel bleed from the support was calculated to be as high as 78 ...

Heterogeneous Catalysts for Toluene Oxidation

Chemistry – An Asian Journal
AbstractThe selective activation of C(sp3)‐H bonds in toluene to produce high value‐added oxygenated chemicals represents a pivotal challenge and opportunity for both fundamental researches and industrial applications. Since the C(sp3)‐H bonds are both thermodynamically robust and kinetically inert, conventional catalytic techniques for the activation ...

Heterogeneous hydrogenation catalysts

Russian Chemical Reviews, 1998
The main types of heterogeneous catalysts used for hydrogenation, the methods for their preparation, and the structure and chemistry of their surfaces are considered, as well as the catalytic activity and the mechanism of action in the hydrogenation of unsaturated and aromatic compounds, of CO, and of carbonyl compounds and in the hydrorefining of ...

Heterogenization of Metallocene Catalysts for Alkene Polymerization

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 1999
Beyond mere convenience: In large-scale industrial processes for alkene polymerization the essentially homogeneous metallocene/activator catalyst systems are heterogenized (example shown) to improve polymer properties. New mesoporous and organic catalyst supports and their application in this field of catalysis are described.
