The Heterojunction with Light

As an example of the thin heterojunction polycrystalline solar cell, the CdS/Cu2S cell is chosen. The current voltage characteristic is computed. Space charge effects in the heterojunction are discussed. The influence of electron traps in CdS is shown. The influence of a field enhanced depletion of hole traps is experimentally demonstrated.

Heterojunctions of the type pSinCdS are fabricated by depositing epitaxial films on single crystal silicon substrates using the technique of electron beam evaporation of CdS powder under UHV conditions. The basic junction properties such as photo-conduction, I–U and C–U characteristics are investigated.
