Auditory systems of Heteromyidae: Postnatal development of the ear of Dipodomys merriami

Journal of Morphology, 1975
AbstractSerial histological sections of kangaroo rats of postnatal ages 0‐, 3‐, 7‐, 10‐, and 14‐days were prepared and studied. At birth the middle ear is mostly filled with mesenchyme and small in size, having only a small hypotympanum and a very small epitympanic recess. During the first postnatal two weeks, much of the hypertrophy found in the adult

Karyological Affinities of the Species Groups of Silky Pocket Mice (Rodentia, Heteromyidae)

Journal of Mammalogy, 1978
Data on mitotic chromosomes of the 12 species of silky pocket mice ( Perognathus , subgenus Perognathus ) are evaluated in phyletic terms. Five karyotypic groups are recognized. The fasciatus group is composed of P. fasciatus, P. apache , and P. flavescens (2N = 44, FN = 48–50). Members of the flavus group ( P. flavus and P. merriami ; 2N = 50, FN = 86)

An anatomical study of the brains of Dipodomys (Mammalia: Rodentia: Heteromyidae).

Anatomischer Anzeiger, 1980
Whole brains and Nissl-stained serial sections of 3 species of kangaroo rat (Dipodomys spectabilis, D. ordii, D. merriami) were compared for interspecific differences. Neuroanatomical variations were conservative in nature. Examination of the cerebellum revealed possible differences in locomotion and ecology. Dipodomys ordii exhibited more neurological
