Enzymatic cyclization of linear peptide to plant cyclopeptide heterophyllin B

The crude enzyme (PH-1) isolated from Pseudostellaria heterophylla by our group has catalyzed enzymatic cyclization of linear peptide NH2-Gly1-Gly2-Leu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Ile-Phe-COOH (4) into cyclopeptide heterophyllin B (HB) from plant for the first time.

Heterophyllin B, a cyclopeptide from Pseudostellaria heterophylla, enhances cognitive function via neurite outgrowth and synaptic plasticity

Neurite outgrowth‐induced construction of neural circuits and networks is responsible for memory generalization, consolidation, and retrieval. In this study, we found that the traditional Chinese medicine Pseudostellaria heterophylla promoted neurite regrowth and enhanced cognitive function in normal mice.

From the root of Pseudostellaria heterophylla a cyclopeptide, heterophyllin B, was isolated by high-speed countercurrent chromatography. Fused-silica capillary columns containing heterophyllin B as a main stationary phase component were prepared. The chromatographic selectivity of heterophyllin B showed toward aromatics.
