Structural Covariance Analysis of Altered Brain Development in Neonates With Congenital Heart Disease After Surgery

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Brain development is altered in neonates with congenital heart disease (CHD), with well‐characterised reductions in regional brain volumes and enlargement of CSF spaces. However, perioperative morphological changes remain incompletely understood. Purpose To identify brain regions showing spatial patterns of coordinated expansion and

Sparse Variational Contaminated Noise Gaussian Process Regression with Applications in Geomagnetic Perturbations Forecasting

open access: yesData Science in Science
Gaussian Processes (GP) have become popular machine learning methods for kernel based learning on datasets with complicated covariance structures. In this paper, we present a novel extension to the GP framework using a contaminated normal likelihood ...

Machine Learning‐Based Correction of Reanalysis Surface Radiation Fluxes Using Ground‐Measured Data in the Southern Brazilian Pampa Biome

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ERA5 provides more accurate surface radiation flux estimates than MERRA2 across the Southern Brazilian Pampa. Machine learning models, particularly Random Forest, further improved the precision of reanalysis data for climate applications.

Causal Linkages Between Forestation, Health Issues, and Sustainability Dimensions in the United States and China: A Climate Resilience Perspective

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Growing environmental pressures and climate‐related risks have intensified concerns regarding population health and sustainability. This study explores how the predictive relationship between public health and key sustainability indicators, such as agricultural emissions, forests, governance, digitalization, green energy, and climate outcomes,

A geometric characterization of c-optimal designs for heteroscedastic regression [PDF]

open access: yes
We consider the common nonlinear regression model where the variance as well as the mean is a parametric function of the explanatory variables. The c-optimal design problem is investigated in the case when the parameters of both the mean and the variance

Uncertainty-aware structure–property mapping of spinodoid metamaterials

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Spinodoid metamaterials provide a tunable design space for anisotropic mechanical properties, but their structure–property relationships are commonly represented as deterministic mappings from cone-angle descriptors to single stiffness values.

Enforcement Design and Targeted Deterrence in Professional Sports: Evidence From NBA Anti‐Flopping Reforms

open access: yesManagerial and Decision Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines strategic responses to alternative enforcement designs in professional basketball. Using NBA player‐level panel data, we study two anti‐flopping reforms: ex post financial fines introduced in 2012–2013 and in‐game technical fouls implemented in 2023–2024.

Conserving wildlife through demand reduction and supply alternatives: Two experiments in restaurants in Kinshasa

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract High aggregate levels of wildlife consumption in cities in Central Africa highlight the need for solutions that balance wildlife protection, local livelihoods and the relational values between people and nature. This study explores the impacts of demand‐ and supply‐side interventions on wild meat consumption through two randomized control ...

Belief and the beast: Religion and attitudes towards tigers in Central India

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Human perceptions of wildlife are critical to shaping conservation outcomes, particularly in landscapes where people coexist with large carnivores. Religion, a deeply rooted sociocultural force, remains underexplored in the context of human–wildlife conflict.
