Early‐life adversity modulates growth trajectories and red blood cell mitochondrial metabolism in king penguin chicks

In many avian species, variation in breeding phenology is known to affect reproductive success. In king penguins, the breeding cycle lasts more than a year, and the start of egg‐laying extends over three months, with early‐breeders laying eggs around December and late‐breeders around February.

ENHYDROSS: A New Mechanistic Model Supports the Trans‐Oceanic Dispersal Capability of Terrestrial Vertebrates

Do Energetic Challenges Mimicking Missed Foraging Encourage Torpor Use by a Neotropical Bat?

We experimentally tested whether Merriam's long‐tongued bat (Glossophaga mutica), a Neotropical nectarivorous species, uses heterothermy in response to reduced energy intake. We found that energetically challenged bats maintained subcutaneous temperatures significantly closer to roost temperature during the daytime inactive period.
