Heuristic Methods for Hypertree Decomposition

2008
The literature provides several structural decomposition methods for identifying tractable subclasses of the constraint satisfaction problem. Generalized hypertree decompositionis the most general of such decomposition methods. Although the relationship to other structural decomposition methods has been thoroughly investigated, only little research has

Heuristic Multivariate Prediction Methods

1995
Multivariate prediction methods allow the prediction of a multivariate response for given multivariate predictor. A general overview of linear multivariate prediction methods has been given in chapter 2. Unless the predictors are set according to an experimental design, the predictors are correlated.

Heuristic Methods for Computer Ethics

Metaphilosophy, 2002
The domain of “procedural ethics” is the set of reflective and deliberative methods that maximize the reliability of moral judgment. While no general algorithmic method exists that will guarantee the validity of ethical deliberation, non‐algorithmic “heuristic” methods can guide and inform the process, making it significantly more robust and dependable.

Further Use of Heuristic Methods

2017
The next section shows not only how a heuristic approach can be employed to solve hard problems but also how an investigation of the mathematical model can lead to a simpler solution technique.

WT-Heuristics: A Heuristic Method for Efficient Operator Ordering

2007
In this paper, we focus on the processing of stream data whose characteristics vary unpredictably by over time. Particularly, we suggest a method which generates an efficient operator execution order called WT-Heuristic. Our method changes the execution order with respect to the change of data characteristics with minimum overheads.

Heuristic Methods Applied to Orienteering

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 1984
A general description of the sport of orienteering in its two forms known as orienteering event and score orienteering event is given. The similarities between the latter and the generalized travelling salesman problem are underlined, and a common mathematical model is deduced.

Combinatorial Search and Heuristic Methods

2012
We can solve many problems to optimality using exhaustive search techniques, although the time complexity can be enormous. For certain applications, it may pay to spend extra time to be certain of the optimal solution. A good example occurs in testing a circuit or a program on all possible inputs.

Designing Parallel Meta-Heuristic Methods

2014
Meta-heuristics represent powerful tools for addressing hard combinatorial optimization problems. However, real life instances usually cannot be treated efficiently in “reasonable” computing times. Moreover, a major issue in meta-heuristic design and calibration is to provide high performance solutions for a variety of problems.
