Heuristics for Finding Sparse Solutions of Linear Inequalities

Asia-Pacific Journal of Operational Research, 2021
In this paper, we consider the problem of finding a sparse solution, with a minimal number of nonzero components, for a set of linear inequalities. This optimization problem is combinatorial and arises in various fields such as machine learning and compressed sensing. We present three new heuristics for the problem.

Heuristic solutions for satellite link expansion

11th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (IEEE Cat. No.02CH37379), 2003
The efficient heuristic algorithm for sizing of N satellite capacity types (on LES side of link) in mobile networks during exploitation is being developed, minimizing the total expansion cost. Using the network flow approach and the extreme flow theory many expansion solutions (sub-problems) are eliminated from further calculation, because they consist

A Survey on WSN Issues with its Heuristics and Meta-Heuristics Solutions

Wireless Personal Communications, 2021
A wireless sensor networks (WSN’s) has stimulated significant research work among the researchers in monitoring and tracking tasks. It’s a quite challenging task that needs to cope up with various conflicting issues such as energy efficiency, network lifetime, connectivity, coverage, etc. in WSN’s for designing various applications. This paper explores

Designing Distribution Networks: Formulations and Solution Heuristic

Transportation Science, 2004
The fast development of transport activities and the introduction of shipment consolidation have considerably changed the logistics context over the last three decades. Consolidation terminals, also called transshipment centers (TC) or hubs, have justified their presence by improving the loading of trucks in terms of both volume and weight.

Stochastic lot-sizing: Solution and heuristic methods

International Journal of Production Economics, 1996
Abstract We consider a single item stochastic lot-sizing model motivated by a Dutch company operating in a make-to-order environment. Since there is no possibility for having stocks on hand, every customer's order receives a fixed delivery date upon arrival.

Heuristic Solutions for Locating Health Resources

IEEE Intelligent Systems, 2008
Of the three metaheuristic strategies tested that can help determine healthcare facility locations, scatter search performed the best and fastest. Hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, can cause many health problems, including blurred vision, mental confusion, and speech impairment.

Heuristic Solution of a Signal Design Optimization Problem

Bell System Technical Journal, 1973
This paper discusses a heuristic solution procedure for a combinatorial optimization problem that originates in designing signal constellations for modems. The design problem is to place m signals in a two-dimensional space to minimize the average error rate under specified noise conditions, using a maximum-likelihood decoding scheme.

Heuristically Matching Solution Spaces of Arithmetic Formulas to Efficiently Reuse Solutions

2017 IEEE/ACM 39th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE), 2017
Many symbolic program analysis techniques rely on SMT solvers to verify properties of programs. Despite the remarkable progress made in the development of such tools, SMT solvers still represent a main bottleneck to the scalability of these techniques.

Business Process Redesign Heuristics for Blockchain Solutions

2020 IEEE 24th International Enterprise Distributed Object Computing Conference (EDOC), 2020
Blockchain has emerged as one of the most promising and revolutionary technologies in the past years. Companies are exploring use cases in the hope of reaping benefits from this technology. However, to achieve the desired impact, it is not sufficient to merely replace existing technologies.
