Topological insulators and thermoelectric materials

open access: yes, 2012
Topological insulators (TIs) are a new quantum state of matter which have gapless surface states inside the bulk energy gap. Starting with the discovery of two dimensional TIs, the HgTe-based quantum wells, many new topological materials have been ...

Additive Manufacturing of Ni‐Based Thermoelectric Materials for Waste Heat Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Thermoelectric generators convert waste heat into electricity but are constrained by conventional fabrication. Here, laser powder bed fusion enables direct printing of customised n‐type Cu60Ni40 and p‐type Ni90Cr10 legs. The assembled module achieves 0.8% efficiency at ΔT = 419 K, demonstrating scalable additive manufacturing of eco‐friendly, design ...

Completely compensated ferrimagnetism and sublattice spin crossing in the half-metallic Heusler compound Mn1.5FeV0.5Al

open access: yes, 2016
The Slater-Pauling rule states that L21 Heusler compounds with 24 valence electrons do never exhibit a total spin magnetic moment. In case of strongly localized magnetic moments at one of the atoms (here Mn) they will exhibit a fully compensated half ...

Half‐Metallic Full‐Heusler and Half‐Heusler Compounds with Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), 2023
Herein, a mechanism is proposed as to how thin films formed from a Heusler compound can simultaneously have both perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and be half‐metallic. It is proposed that a thin film formed from a half‐metallic full‐Heusler or half‐Heusler compound that is cubic in the bulk can undergo a tetragonal distortion by adopting the ...

Magnetic Textiles: A Review of Materials, Fabrication, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetic textiles (M‐textiles) are emerging as a programmable materials platform that merges magnetic matter with hierarchical textile structures. This article consolidates magnetic material classes, textile architectures, and fabrication and magnetization strategies, revealing structure–property–function relationships that govern magneto‐mechanical ...

Structural, magnetic, and transport properties of Co$_2$FeSi Heusler films

open access: yes, 2006
We report the deposition of thin Co$_2$FeSi films by RF magnetron sputtering. Epitaxial (100)-oriented and L2$_1$ ordered growth is observed for films grown on MgO(100) substrates.

Double Half-Heuslers [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2019
Since their discovery around a century ago, the structure and chemistry of the multi-functional half-Heusler semiconductors have been studied extensively as three component systems. The elemental groups constituting these ternary compounds with the nominal formula XYZ are well established where most stable compositions follow a valence balanced rule (a

Lifshitz Transition in Correlated Topological Semimetals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Theoretical calculations reveal that in YPtBi and GdPtBi, strong electronic correlations shift topological Dirac nodes away from the Fermi level by forming large hole pockets. This effect is sensitive to temperature and arises from interactions among 4d or 4f electrons, offering insights into Fermi surface engineering in quantum materials.

Improved switching performance of magnetic tunnel junctions with Heusler compounds by insertion of resistive layers [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Materials
The chemical templating layer (CTL) is ideally suited to grow ordered multicomponent Heusler compounds at temperatures compatible with complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor technology and at thickness necessary for their implementation as storage ...
