Extensions to HEVC

2014
In this chapter, a survey of the currently ongoing activities for extension of the HEVC specification is provided. As these activities are beyond the scope of this book and have not been finalized by the time of writing, the presentation is kept at a higher level.

HEVC in wireless environments

Journal of Real-Time Image Processing, 2015
The increasing demand for real-time applications with high and ultra-high-definition video urged the ITU-T and the ISO/IEC to join their forces to develop the next-generation video coding standard. The new coding standard that has been produced is known as High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC).

Introduction to the Special Issue on HEVC Extensions and Efficient HEVC Implementations

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2016
High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is the most recent standard in the series of major video coding standards jointly produced by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). HEVC was first approved in 2013 in the ITU-T as Recommendation H.265 and in ISO/IEC as International Standard 23008-2, and it ...

An Adaptive Stereoscopic Video Streaming Mechanism Using MV-HEVC and 3D-HEVC Technologies

2019 Twelfth International Conference on Ubi-Media Computing (Ubi-Media), 2019
In this paper, we propose an adaptive stereoscopic video streaming mechanism using MV-HEVC and 3D-HEVC technologies. When the current available bandwidth is insufficient for delivering all video layers, the mechanism selects the MV-HEVC and 3D-HEVC video pictures near the current playing point with the proposed rate control algorithm.

Efficient SBT Architecture for HEVC

2020
In this paper report a different VLSI area efficient integer transform is designed for the High Efficiency video coding (HEVC) encoder. This integer transform built depends on Signed Biplane Transform (SBT) matrix. Which are extracted from the bit plane slicing of the integer transform grids in HEVC.

Guidelines for hevc deployments

International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2013 Conference, 2013
HEVC is a new joint ITU/ISO standard for advanced video compression that will find applications in multiple domains: classical broadcast over DTH, cable, over-the-air and IP delivery (IPTV, OTT) at multiple resolutions from SD to Ultra HD, for both linear and non-linear content.

Intra-Picture Prediction in HEVC

2014
The intra prediction framework of HEVC consists of three steps: reference sample array construction, sample prediction, and post-processing. All the three steps have been designed to achieve high coding efficiency while minimizing the computational requirements in both the encoder and decoder.

Fast field pairing in HEVC

2013 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo Workshops (ICMEW), 2013
Unlike previous video coding standards such as MPEG-2/H.262 and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, the new video coding standard HEVC does not require a complementary field pair to be consecutive in decoding order. Each field is stored into a separate field buffer. However, some display systems only take frame buffers as input, so that two field buffers have to be ...
