Occupational exposure to hexachlorocyclohexane
International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1983Metabolism of gamma-Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) was studied examining 21 workers producing this insecticide. Using gas chromatography in combination with ECD and mass spectrometry 14 mono-, di-, tri- and tetrachlorophenols were identified in the urine samples of the workers.

Toxicity of the hexachlorocyclohexane in rats
Toxicology, 1978Three groups, with 10 sixty-day-old male rats each, were given dietary levels of technical hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) 0, 0.9 and 900 ppm for 90 days. Observations were made on blood glucose, live glycogen and glucose-6-phosphatase (G-6-Pase), organ weights, histology and histochemistry of different tissues.

Biodegradation of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) by microorganisms
Biodegradation, 2005The organochlorine pesticide Lindane is the gamma-isomer of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH). Technical grade Lindane contains a mixture of HCH isomers which include not only gamma-HCH, but also large amounts of predominantly alpha-, beta- and delta-HCH. The physical properties and persistence of each isomer differ because of the different chlorine atom ...

Hexachlorocyclohexane: persistence, toxicity and decontamination
Reviews on Environmental Health, 2014Abstract Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), a persistent organochlorine insecticide, has been extensively used in the past for control of agricultural pests and vector borne diseases. The use of HCH has indeed accrued benefits, however the unusual production of the insecticidal isomer; γ-HCH (lindane) and unregulated disposal of HCH muck has ...

Microbial Transformation of Hexachlorocyclohexane
Zentralblatt für Mikrobiologie, 1991Some microorganisms are able to accumulate and to metabolize the pesticide lindane (gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane, gamma-HCH) and other HCH-isomers. Microbial activities, detected metabolites, transformation rates, concentrating factors are reviewed. The results are discussed in respect to use microbiological processes for purification of contaminated ...

Hexachlorocyclohexanes in human blood serum
Journal of Chromatography A, 1997A simplified method allowing the determination of trace concentrations (ng/ml) of hexachlorocyclohexanes in human sera suitable for the analysis of large numbers of samples has been developed. Comparison of acid (conc. H2SO4,) and basic (5 M KOH) digestion has shown that good recoveries are obtained with the former when an internal standard, 1,2,4,5 ...
