Bacterial Bio-Resources for Remediation of Hexachlorocyclohexane [PDF]
In the last few decades, highly toxic organic compounds like the organochlorine pesticide (OP) hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) have been released into the environment. All HCH isomers are acutely toxic to mammals. Although nowadays its use is restricted or completely banned in most countries, it continues posing serious environmental and health concerns ...

Reconstructing an ancestral genotype of two hexachlorocyclohexane-degrading Sphingobium species using metagenomic sequence data. [PDF]
Over the last 60 years, the use of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) as a pesticide has resulted in the production of >4 million tons of HCH waste, which has been dumped in open sinks across the globe.

Rethinking Chlorine: Essential Chemical or Replaceable Risk?
Chlorine is essential for the production of plastics and pharmaceuticals but poses significant safety and environmental risks. Herein, processes are presented that substitute chlorine or reduce its demand. Where indispensable, trichloride‐ and bichloride‐based ionic liquids could enhance safety and streamline the integration of renewable energy ...

Pollution, stress response, and obesity: A systematic review
Summary Limited literature addresses the association between pollution, stress, and obesity, and knowledge synthesis on the associations between these three topics has yet to be made. Two reviewers independently conducted a systematic review of MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science Core Collection databases to identify studies dealing with the effects of

In two soil types small amounts of ??-hexachlorocyclohexane were formed from ??-hexachlorocyclohexane under submerged conditions, but not under aerobic conditions. In the submerged soils ??-tetrachlorocyclohexene was detected as a major metabolite of ??-hexachlorocyclohexane, whereas aerobic soil incubation yielded ??-pentachlorocyclohexene.
